Submission Guidelines
Payment & Support
We believe in fair compensation for historical writers:
Payment via PayPal, bank transfer, or agreed method within 60 days of publication. All selected authors receive three complimentary print copies and promotion through our academic and literary networks.
Submission Requirements
- Word Count: 1,000 – 10,000 words (firm limits)
- Genre: Historical fiction, biographical narrative, historical analysis, or creative non-fiction with historical themes
- Historical Accuracy: Stories should demonstrate research and attention to historical context
- Originality: Unpublished original works only (no reprints)
- Format: .doc, .docx, or .rtf format. Use 12pt Times New Roman or similar serif font, double-spaced.
- Language: English only, though we welcome inclusion of period-appropriate foreign terms with translation
Period Inspiration: We’re fascinated by tales from all historical periods: Ancient civilizations, Medieval Europe, Renaissance, Age of Exploration, Industrial Revolution, World Wars, and everything between. Show us history through a compelling narrative lens!
Submission Period
Submissions are open from March 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026.
Final deadline: August 31, 2026, 11:59 PM GMT
Response Time
We aim to respond within 60 days (allowing for thorough review). If you haven’t heard from us after 90 days, please query. We commit to providing constructive feedback when possible.
Research Note: Simultaneous submissions are allowed. We welcome information about your research sources. Multiple submissions are not permitted (one story per author, but feel free to query about exceptions for connected short story collections).
Terms & Publication Guidelines
Copyright & Author Rights
Authors retain full copyright to their work. By submitting, you grant us first worldwide anthology rights in English for print and digital formats, and non-exclusive archival rights to keep the anthology in print.
All other rights remain with the author. You may republish your story 6 months after the anthology’s publication date.
Author Rights & Grant of License
By submitting your story, you grant us:
- First Anthology Rights: The right to publish your story for the first time in our historical anthology
- Non-exclusive Archival Rights: The right to keep the anthology in print (print and digital formats)
- Promotional Rights: The right to use excerpts (up to 10% of the story) for promotional purposes
You retain: All other rights, including film/TV rights, audio rights, translation rights, and the right to republish the story in other collections or on your personal website after the exclusivity period (6 months post-publication).
Payment Terms
- Payment calculated on final edited word count at $0.08 per word
- Payment processed within 60 days of publication
- Three complimentary print copies for selected authors
- Digital copies available upon request
- Additional copies available at author discount (40% off retail)

Editing & Attribution
We reserve the right to perform minor copyediting for clarity and consistency. Substantive historical edits will be discussed collaboratively with the author. Authors will be credited by their preferred name in the anthology and in all promotional materials, with optional academic affiliation if desired.
Fact-Checking Process
All submissions undergo a basic fact-checking process for major historical claims. Authors may be asked to provide sources for specific details. We maintain respect for academic freedom while ensuring reasonable historical accuracy.
